Masatsugu wanted me to attend my first SCA event in my very own dress. He worked with Lady Belle to get a pattern together for me. He and I went to SR Harris, the fabric store, and I picked out some fantastic fabrics that I really loved. Belle showed me how to make some buttons. I got to do some serging and then some hand sewing on the dress itself.
Then it was finally time for the buttons!!! Button, Button, Whose Got That Button?
I ended up burning the tips of my fingers on a ceramic plate the night before Shades. Note to self... when microwaving something on those cute little ceramic plates, one should not just reach in and grab it when flames are nearly bouncing off its surface. A short trip to urgent care and I was all fixed up to go!
Then I sewed on all the buttons! I was quite proud of myself, yes, I realize it wasn't anything nearly impressive as making my own tent, like Masatugu did... but baby steps is how I start :)
I got to meet so many wonderful people and have a lot of fun. My daughters attended. Their grandmother made dresses for them to wear. I've got all the pictures up on my facebook. But just had to say how much fun they had.
My daughter Alexa was hooked! She has now selected her own persona and wants to be fully involved in the SCA. She would like to make candles.
I couldn't wait to attend another event!
